| The Central Teachings of the Quran: A Thematic Study |

Ever since the revelation of the Quran, it has been for all Muslims
throughout the world a book of guidance, an ultimate frame of reference
and a rich source of moral dynamism. We Muslims cannot gather the full
and real treasures of the Quran unless we devote ourselves to
understanding its meanings. This course is a first step in our attempt to study the Quran and unravel its meanings. The main goal of the course is to give students an in-depth exegetical analysis of the contents and themes of the Quran. The main objective of this analysis is to make the Quran accessible to understand. This course is built on the premise that the Quran possesses coherence and order of the highest degree, despite the apparent fluctuation of themes. There is a unifying thread in the Quran. Throughout the course we will attempt to capture the internal cohesive order of the Quran by taking a macro-level approach to the 114 surahs of the Quran. The introductory lectures of the course aim at setting the stage for the in-depth exegetical study of the Quran and building foundational premises that are crucial for a proper understanding of the Quran.
